
Dr Craig Hambling is an historian specialising in thirteenth and fourteenth century education and martial arts training. He gives lectures, demonstrations, and practical workshops on medieval martial arts and concepts of gender, bodies, and social theory.
He is currently working on his first monograph How to Build a King: Medieval Education, Martial Arts, and the Shaping of the Royal Body.
Craig is also a teacher and choreographer with the British Academy of Dramatic Combat (BADC) and is an experienced theatrical fight director, and performer.

The thesis was a study of the relationships between physical and academic education as described in Giles of Rome's de regimine principum (c.1280) and wider medieval social and political theory.
